Color Theory

Recently in class we discussed how color theory can impact the feeling of a film by watching the Grand Budapest Hotel. By watching this it raised the question as to how, if I were to implement this into my own animations, how it would impact the feeling of the film.

In my character animation the Lego character, acting as the main character is tasked with simple target practice. He salutes the camera and then proceeds to shoot three times and misses every single shot. He then walks up very close to the target and shoots is from very close range and hits it instantly. The way that I want the audience to feel is on edge because, being that it is a military figure, hitting the target is very important for him to succeed. Obviously not hitting the target can be a very saddening feeling and with the character being a new recruit colors that would be impactful would be a combination of red and green. These two colors being complementary colors will inform the watcher that not only is he a recruit from the green gentle colors, but also the anger he experienced while missing the shots. The reason that I chose green because that throughout war I imagine soldiers to become more hardened to emotion and green is a very gentle and emotional color. The color I want to use for my environment is a tan like yellow that will describe the setting as being somewhere sandy. If the story were to line up it would be assumed that he is in some sort of training exercise and with America's current war taking place in the Middle East sandy war environments are very familiar.
